Trois Rivieres:
A major part of Trois-Rivières heritage, this beautiful 1730 building currently houses the Trois-Rivières chamber of commerce and industries. On the second floor, discover the roof framework, comprised of trusses and rafters supported by a purlin. It is unique in Québec and one of the oldest roofs of this type still in existence. Founded in 1985, this festival presents 400 events over 10 days in more than 90 different locations in downtown Trois-Rivières: cafés, bars, restaurants, taverns, art galleries, theatres. Over 150 poets from some 30 countries present their works before 30,000 to 40,000 people. Shaped and shaded by the Laurentians, Portneuf Wildlife Reserve lies between Québec City, Trois Rivières and La Tuque. Reserve lands were once part of the seigneury ceded to Jacques Le Neuf de la Potherie, who is said to have added `Port` to his name. The reserve was created in 1968 to `conserve the wildlife and offer hunting and fishing grounds as well as wholesome recreational opportunities.` Formerly the preserve of private clubs for the rich, today it is enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts from all walks of life. Here, peaks and valleys unfurl in breathtaking succession, falls cascade tumultuously, streams meander peacefully. Criss-crossing the countryside is picturesque roadways leading to activities of all sorts. The untold lakes and rivers are home to numerous species of fish, including speckled trout, lake trout, Arctic char and maskinongé. Reserve forests are also home to an abundance of animal life and a flurry of bird species. Whether you`re a sport hunting or fishing enthusiast, a devotee of outdoor pursuits or a lover of nature, you'll be charmed and delighted by the natural beauty of this remarkable land. Trois Rivieres is a small city with more than 350 years of history and has a modern feel.
